Where Passion
Meets Tradition

Every great restaurant has a story, and ours began long before Sushi Taisho opened its doors.

In 2006, Chef Brian Yoon started his journey as a sushi chef at the original Sushi Taisho in Carlsbad Village. What began as an opportunity quickly became a lifelong passion. Through years of dedication, patience, and craftsmanship, Brian mastered the art of sushi while building meaningful relationships with guests, coworkers, and the community that supported him.

Not long after, his wife Misun joined the restaurant as a server. Together, they dreamed of one day creating a place they could truly call their ow. A restaurant built on exceptional food, genuine hospitality, and the feeling of family.

Over the years, that dream became reality. Together, Brian and Misun opened several successful restaurants throughout San Diego, including Hooked On Sushi and Hooked On Poke. But no matter how much they grew, Carlsbad Village always held a special place in their hearts.

Sushi Taisho
is their way of coming home!

Today, Chef Brian continues to personally select the seafood, ingredients, and vendors that meet his high standards, ensuring every dish reflects the quality and care that have defined his career for nearly two decades. His passion for Japanese cuisine is paired with a creative approach, blending traditional techniques with fresh, modern flavors that have become a signature of the restaurant.

Just as important as the food is the team behind it. Many of the people who worked alongside Brian and Misun years ago remain part of their restaurant family today. Some have been with them for over a decade, and now even their children have joined the team. Those lasting relationships are the foundation of everything they do. The Yoon’s know they couldn’t have reached this level of success without the entire team’s effort and accomplishments.

Whether you're joining us for your first visit or you've been dining with us since the beginning, we're honored to share our table with you.

Welcome to Sushi Taisho, where every meal is crafted with passion, served with heart, and inspired by the place where it all began.
